In 2020 I had completed my BA in English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford and I was thrust into a world of uncertainty alongside everyone else. Noticing how students' schooling was affected by the pandemic, I decided to employ my recently gathered knowledge and try a hand at tutoring online full-time. I had done a little tutoring whilst at university but nothing to the extent I did after my degree. Since then, I have been tutoring a range of students from around the world, including places such as China, Australia, Romania, Korea and Vietnam! Many of my students have secured top grades in their GCSEs and A-Levels, and through my mentoring, have achieved places at prestigious universities, such as Oxford.
My sessions predominantly revolve around introducing students to a vast array of literature and helping students to really enjoy what they're exploring, which itself will aid their writing and get them on track to securing the best grades possible. Alongside this, I will help students develop their critical writing and PEA structure - skills which extend beyond English and will aid students in their other subjects and professional lives.
I hold an extensive knowledge of literary theory, and can provide some information on that, in order to really enhance students' answers and make them stand out. Beyond literature, I also have experience with teaching English as a second language (ESL), having helped students from around the world to improve their English language skills, with ages ranging from 8-30 years old.
I also have a particular love for drama and plays, having involved myself in various productions, including playing Hamlet whilst studying at university. My dissertation also focused on the depictions of mental illness in the plays of Arthur Miller and how those are addressed within their individual sociohistorical contexts. It is this passion for literature beyond my working life that I believe infuses my sessions with both energy and keen critical insight.
